Steve Case

“Revolution is building businesses that change the world. We are focusing on major challenges that could be addressed through philanthropy, politics, or the public sector. But for me, given my interests and skills, I think I can have the greatest impact through an entrepreneurial prism, building on the AOL experience. At AOL, we were very mission-driven. We really were motivated as much by getting people online and ushering in a more interactive age as we were about building a business and making money. That same philosophy applies particularly in areas like home health care, which is a broken system that demands a swing-for-the-fences kind of approach to empower consumers, leverage technology, and effect big change.”

Biography

Steve Case is co-founder and former chief executive officer and chairman of America Online (AOL). He was instrumental in facilitating the AOL-Time Warner merger in 2000.

Case graduated from Punahou School in 1976 and then went on to Williams College in Massachusetts earning a degree in political science. After being rejected by a string of MBA schools, he started working as a marketer for Proctor & Gamble.

In 1983, Case moved to Control Video as a part-time consultant. The company eventually, through a series of changes, became Quantum and finally, in 1991, America Online. After a decade of dramatic growth, AOL merged with media giant Time Warner in a $106 billion union in 2000. The merger quickly ran into trouble during the dot-com recession. Case resigned as chairman in January 2003 but remained on the company's board for nearly three years.

In 2005, Case established Revolution LLC. He is still one of Time Warner's largest individual shareholders and in 1997 founded the Case Foundation which inspires people from all walks of life to come together and take action on things that matter.
