Emmitt Smith

"For me, winning isn't something that happens suddenly on the field when the whistle blows and the crowds roar. Winning is something that builds physically and mentally every day that you train and every night that you dream."

Biography

A Florida native, Emmitt Smith’s football career began at Escambia High School in Pensacola, Florida, where he ended the school’s loosing streak in his freshman year. His field performance led to a college football career with the University of Florida. After three years with the university, he had scored 37 touchdowns, had 23 100-yard rushing games, became an NCAA All-American and made himself eligible for the NFL draft. Soon after, the Dallas Cowboys picked Smith as a running back in the first round of the 1990 draft. Smith’s first 12 years in the NFL with the Cowboys led his career portfolio to include three Super Bowl championships, league MVP, MVP of Super Bowl XXVIII and eight Pro Bowl appearances. Smith was also the first player in NFL history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in 11 consecutive seasons. He left the Cowboys, signed with the Arizona Cardinals and ended his NFL career after two seasons.

During many of the off-seasons, he had been taking classes at University of Florida, as a promise to his mother, where he officially earned his bachelor’s degree in 1996. Smith now sponsors underprivileged children’s college educations.
